Four Season 5 Multiplayer classes for four actual jobs: win ordinary gunfights, print score, hold the objective, or turn close range into chaos.
Pick your job first
Stop looking for one class that wins everywhere. Start with what you need to do in the next match, then import or assemble the matching build.
| Job | Weapon | Best use | Main trade-off | Build code |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Generalist | FG42 | Mixed maps, medium lanes, normal slaying | Slower handling and open-bolt delay | A16-34FC8-LJJUI-11 |
| Score runner | Sturmwolf 45 | Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed | Gives up some long-range comfort | S07-9PP5F-JU11 |
| Objective anchor | Mammoth | Holding lanes and surviving utility spam | Slow sprint-to-fire and ADS | Manual build below |
| Close-range chaos | Gremlin | Small maps, flanks, relentless pressure | No ADS and weak reach | S16-3M5Z7-FLY31 |
Build codes are Season 5 snapshots. In Gunsmith, open the weapon options and use the build-code import command. If an attachment is still locked, the game may import an incomplete version.
1. FG42: the generalist

The FG42 is the safest first choice when you do not know the map rotation or your exact role. Treyarch describes it as a hard-hitting full-auto rifle with low recoil, but balances it with slower handling and a short open-bolt delay. This GameSpot build attacks those weaknesses while adding ammunition and fire rate.
| Slot | Attachment | What it contributes |
|---|---|---|
| Optic | Fang Hoverpoint ELO | Clean sight picture |
| Muzzle | Redwell Shade-X Suppressor | Keeps shots off the minimap |
| Magazine | Overbook Extended Mag | More room for multi-kills |
| Underbarrel | RIF Handguard | Recoil stability |
| Rear Grip | Tress Grip | Better weapon handling |
| Stock | MFS Ambilateral Stock | Higher fire rate and horizontal control |
Use Gunfighter for the six-attachment package. The stock adds major fire-rate value but increases vertical recoil, so do not blindly hold the trigger across the longest lane. If the map becomes tight and frantic, switch to the Sturmwolf or Gremlin instead of trying to force the FG42 into an SMG job.
2. Mammoth: the objective anchor

The Mammoth is not a mobile rifle with a bigger magazine. It is a lane-control tool: 50 rounds, heavy damage, manageable sustained recoil, and slow handling. Treyarch itself recommends mobility and handling attachments when you want to push with it.
| Slot | Attachment | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Barrel | 14-inch MFS Cascade Barrel | Removes pre-fire delay and firing movement penalties |
| Magazine | Fast Mag I | Cuts the LMG reload tax |
| Underbarrel | Ranger Foregrip | Improves mobile control |
| Rear Grip | Quickdraw Grip | Reduces ADS delay |
| Stock | Light Stock | Makes repositioning less painful |
Now build the Operator around staying on the point:
| Class slot | Pick | Why it belongs |
|---|---|---|
| Perk 1 | Flak Jacket | Reduces explosive and fire damage |
| Perk 2 | Gearhead | Gives two Field Upgrade charges |
| Perk 3 | Guardian | Speeds healing while capturing or holding |
| Wildcard | Perk Greed with Tech Mask | Adds resistance to flash, concussion, gas, EMP, and hacking |
| Field Upgrade | Trophy System | Removes incoming projectiles from the fight |
The three green base perks activate Strategist, increasing objective score and Equipment deployment speed. This is the build for holding B, locking a Hardpoint lane, or making the enemy spend several pieces of utility just to move one player.
3. Gremlin: the close-range chaos build

The Gremlin is a pair of full-auto SMGs, permanently dual-wielded. It cannot ADS. That sounds like a gimmick until a small map compresses every engagement into hipfire range. The build below tightens spread, speeds reloads, and calms recoil.
| Slot | Attachment |
|---|---|
| Muzzle | Hawker Series |
| Magazine | Leaper Fast Mag |
| Rear Grip | Saber Grip |
| Laser | Convergence Box Laser |
| Fire Mod | Buffer Springs |
Run Gung Ho, Hunter’s Instinct, and Tac Sprinter for the red Enforcer specialty. After an elimination, Enforcer briefly increases movement and health-regeneration speed, exactly what a weapon built around chaining close fights needs. Do not challenge a prepared FG42 across a lane; use cover, sprint paths, and flanks to decide the distance before firing.
4. Sturmwolf 45: the score runner
The score runner is for players who touch the objective but still want a fast, conventional SMG. GameSpot’s Sturmwolf build is easy to control and reaches farther than the Gremlin:
| Slot | Attachment |
|---|---|
| Muzzle | Redwell Shade-X Suppressor |
| Barrel | 14.8-inch Perigee Barrel |
| Underbarrel | VAS Convergence Foregrip |
| Magazine | Locus Extended Mag |
| Rear Grip | Selene Rover Grip |
Pair Gung Ho with Fast Hands and Bankroll. Two red perks plus one green perk activate Tactician: after an assist, bullet eliminations award bonus score for ten seconds. Bankroll also starts every life with 150 Scorestreak score. Add a Smoke Grenade and Assault Pack, then play the edge of the objective instead of hiding behind it. This setup turns useful aggression into streak progress without demanding LMG pacing.
The ten-second decision
- Unknown map or mixed ranges: FG42.
- Your team needs someone on the point: Mammoth.
- Small map and constant flanks: Gremlin.
- Objective mode, but you refuse to stand still: Sturmwolf 45.
That is the practical meaning of “the best loadout does not exist.” It is not an excuse to avoid recommendations. It is a reason to keep four good answers ready instead of forcing one fashionable gun into every job.
