Max4Live News for May 02th 2024

Philip Meyer’s MIDI Tools Volume One is a suite of generative devices for Ableton Live that alters the conventional approach to creating rhythmic music. The suite comprises four MIDI Generators and eight MIDI Transformers, promising compatibility with Ableton Live 12 and both Mac & Windows operating systems. Installation is straightforward, with intended functionality after simple placement in the User Library in Places at Live.

The four provided MIDI Generators are Blocks, Phase Pattern, Turing Machine, and Polyrhythm. The Blocks function allows for the construction of nested containers for rhythmic sequences. Phase Pattern generates different temporal patterns. Turing Machine uses randomization to create complex sequences, and Polyrhythm enables the creation of intricate rhythms challenging to craft manually.

Simultaneously, the suite equips eight MIDI Transformers, namely Condition Transform, Develop, Divs, Draw, Pattern Transformer, Segment, Shift, and Feel. These features facilitate manipulation and transformation of MIDI clips, enabling variations in rhythmic and melodic ideas and promoting a conducive creative environment.

Moreover, the suite syncs seamlessly with Ableton 12’s new Scales feature and aesthetically adjusts to Live’s themes, ensuring a visually pleasing user interface. It thereby redefines the production process, enabling quick ideation, and simplifies the process of creating complex rhythms like polyrhythms and nested rhythms.
