Eurorack News for May 05th 2024

Maneco Labs’ Pikoloops is a Eurorack module built on Raspberry Pi Pico platform. This lo-fi music mangling tool is capable of holding 8 minutes of 8-bit 33kHz monophonic samples. It offers a range of time-synced beat effects including stutter, retrig, gate, and tunneling and a BPM selection between 60 and 300. This module also provides real-time effects such as resonant filter, timestretching, volume, and wavefolding. It includes a 128-step sequencer for capturing and playing back your creations. Pikoloops provides EEPROM functionality for instant patch recall. It has USB-C loading for firmware and samples refreshing and is a sync-compatible module that integrates with other eurorack devices in diverse rig setups.

The article reviews the combination of three eurorack modules: “Particles” from Patching Panda, “Ciao Mixer” from Bastl Instruments, and the “Deva” expander for Xaoc Devices’ Timiszoara multi-fx module. The “Particles” module is a trigger modulation device with 4 channels allowing manipulations like repetitions, manual shifting and scrambling of output channels, and creation of complex grooves. The “Ciao Mixer” is a quad line output mixer with a headphone amp, allowing flexible routing and monitoring. Lastly, the “Deva” expander adds external feedback loops, tilt filters, and DAC clock control, which helps in adding surprising elements into the rhythmic explorations. The synergistic use of these three modules can create intricate rhythms, evolving patterns, and dynamic sonic textures.

The article also provides guidance on using these modules together. It suggests patching the trigger outputs of Particles into the cowbell circuits of the Nonlinear Circuits More Black Panel module, then feeding the outputs of the cowbell circuits into the Ciao Mixer. The feedback loops of the XAOC Devices Deva module can be incorporated into the mix for added creativity. A further blend can be achieved via oscillating the DAC clock on the feedback effects with Deva.
