Eurorack News for July 29th 2024

The Opp Ned is a compact Eurorack module developed by Noise Engineering. It functions as a four-channel arpeggiator designed for creating intricate, customizable patterns that can be finely controlled using CV. Twelve pre-loaded favoured arpeggio patterns are included – tetrads, major, pentatonic major, minor third, and pentatonic minor – but users have the freedom to alter these to fit their musical vision. The module provides the ability to save individual arpeggio configurations to twelve memory slots, eliminating the need for manual replication of preferred patterns. Users can recall their customised arpeggios manually or using CV via the Ptn input, adding flexibility for real-time musical changes. The Opp Ned also features a transpose input for integration with external sequencers, expanding the module’s rhythmic and melodic potential. The module faithfully reproduces arpeggios, from slow harmonics to rapid cascades, and maintains a focus on quality of sound.

The Malstrom Wyvern is a multifaceted Eurorack module that specializes in stereo saturation. Providing both subtle and intense sound alterations, it elevates sound design capabilities. It comprises a unique blend of modules, including an EQ filter, saturation, VCA, Dual Filter, and a dry/wet control. All operations are rendered in stereo, making it compatible with final mixes and stereo signals. The Filter EQ stage caters to specific sound design requirements by offering a high-shelf, low-shelf and bell curve to manipulate different parts of the spectrum. The Resonance function significantly exaggerates specific frequencies. The saturation module is equipped with functionality to introduce various modifications, with the Drive function allowing users the ability to select from soft clipping, hard clipping and allpass distortion. Additionally, there’s a level control for adjusting gain after applying saturation, effectively functioning as a unipolar VCA. The module’s post-saturation stage offers a high-pass and low-pass combination, allowing a streamlined selection of frequency bands and an achievable balance between dry and wet signals. The Wyvern module is a versatile tool, effectively operating as a stereo tone controller, EQ, filter, VCA, and even a phaser, depending on the requirements of the sound design.

Primarily, the T12 operates based on selected operators leading to versatile functionality. As a touch controller, it responds to finger-based inputs, triggering different musical elements. It transitions into a sequencer or arpeggiator, depending on user preferences, expanding the scope of musical creation.

CV shaping tools are integral features of T12, enabling note quantization – aligning the pitch of notes within a defined scale or mode. These tools also comprise a unique vibrato function that introduces stunning vibratory tones and depth into the compositions. Paired with portamento function, users experience smoother note transitions, enhancing musical expression.

With additional CV generators, the T12 allows precise control over various parameters of your Eurorack modules, leading to enriched sequences and compositions. The functionality and design of the T12 encourage user interaction and experimentation, inviting the exploration of new musical territories within the Eurorack environment.

For usage, start with the touch controller, triggering musical elements with fingertips. Following this, explore the sequencer capabilities of the T12, inputting notes and rhythms and adjusting parameters for added depth. Utilize the arpeggiator for intricate arpeggios, and experiment with different patterns and styles. Finally, use the on-board CV shaping tools to modulate the sounds further.

The Nonlinear Circuits Razors is a unique Eurorack module that serves as a Freq Tripler/Harmonic Generator. This dual voltage-controlled instrument specializes in manipulating Sine and Triangle waves, transforming a single sine wave into three distinct spikes, each with its own shape and amplitude. The changes in output are drastically influenced by adjustments to the onboard controls and incoming control voltage (CV). The module is designed to control the effect’s activation state simply by setting the pots to 0 or 10. It’s critical for users planning to incorporate external CV for effect activation to note that a positive-going CV is required when the pot is at 0, and a negative CV is called for when the pot is turned to 10. The module also has a dedicated CV pot that can affect the sound even without a signal. Overall, Nonlinear Circuits Razors is a versatile Eurorack module that opens up a rich range of sound profiles. Adding this module to your setup can challenge conventional eurorack expectations and expand your creative boundaries.
