Eurorack News for April 28th 2024

Bastl Instruments’ Neo Trinity is a eurorack module with six channels, each allowing for operation as a low-frequency oscillator (LFO), envelope generator, or CV knob recorder. The module uses a REC button for automating each channel’s main parameters. A unique feature is its algorithmic fill feature in its trigger generator that can add a sense of rhythmic flourish or polymetric feel to the output. Another important feature is its SHIFT button that allows for shifting modulation shapes and syncing all or selected channels to an internal or external clock. To further enhance usability during live performance, channel mutes and preset banks for configurations have been added.

The Neo Trinity module gives options for unipolar or bipolar mode for each channel, and a variety of LFO shapes, thereby providing vast sonic possibilities. It boasts additional features like varied envelope shapes, automatable rate knobs, independent automation lengths for each channel, and extensive trigger recording parameters. The assignable CV inputs further increase the module’s versatility, allowing for positive or inverse control of the main parameter, control output amplitude, or act as an external trigger or internal Sample & Hold function trigger. The CV knob recorder mode can also be used as a quantizer, and combined with the CV inputs, it serves as a powerful voltage processor.

The module supports a clock generator range of 35 BPM to 420 BPM and includes CLK IN and CLK OUT connectors for synchronization in a eurorack setup. Users can calibrate both the outputs and inputs for increased precision, and firmware updates are available via USB-C. In summary, the Neo Trinity module offers diverse modulation capabilities with an intuitive interface, geared towards both live performance and studio work.

The Herzlich Labs’ Hyperoxia + Hypoxia are a pair of hybrid filters for the Eurorack format, combining the functionality of high-pass, low-pass, and band-pass filters. The modules follow a unique 1U/0hp design, making them compact and free from occupying space within your rack. Equipped with larger control knobs, these units assure easy manipulation and precise adjustments, proving crucial while shaping sound output. An innovative feature is the ‘normaling’ connections that allow both the filters to function independently or as a single unit, providing the potential to create a passive bandpass filter. When it comes to audio output, they deliver crisp and clean audio with excellent control over different frequency spectra.

The VCF-4 and MFX are Eurorack modules designed for sound manipulation and texture crafting. The VCF-4 module possesses a unique switched capacitor design, allowing for flexible sound-scaling capabilities, and is fitted with a self-oscillating filter and various filter modes. On the other hand, the MFX module delivers a suite of effects programs, including digital delays and granular echoes, yielding a wide palette of sonic possibilities. With the combined functionality of these two modules, ranging from sound reshaping, time and pitch manipulation, to signal modulation, intricate sonic textures in a Eurorack setup can be crafted. These modules additionally offer the ability to save presets and control parameters via CV inputs, allowing for ongoing sonic evolution.

The VCF-4 and MFX modules are products of Skull Circuits and ALM Busy Circuits respectively. When used along with offerings from other manufacturers, such as Paratek, Der Mann Mit Der Maschine, and Eowave Tempete Magnetique, these modules facilitate unparalleled sonic experimentation and creativity in a Eurorack build.
